Celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III

Updated: Jun 7, 2023

Over the weekend of 5 to 7 May 2023, Kirby Hill celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III in fine style. The atmosphere was set in the week leading up to the event with an enthusiastic team doing a good job of decorating the village. With new sign top planters, lots of bunting, flags, a slightly sinister effigy of the king sat outside the pub and an excellent knitted topper for the postbox, the village was certainly one of the best decorated in the area.

There were lots of events over the weekend. The following events all took place at The Shoulder of Mutton.

The celebrations started on Friday 5 May with Live Music by a very talented solo artist, Freddy. His set of popular music started at 8pm and soon got everyone singing along.

On the Saturday, 6 May, a few people watched the Coronation on the large screens in the pub with a delicious barbecue or pizza. The celebrations continued into the evening and finished with the best firework display ever seen in Kirby Hill.

The village really came together for The Big Tea on the Sunday 7 May at 3pm. The Pub, with excellent contributions from across the Village, put on a fantastic high tea of home-made goodies in a very well decorated Restaurant. There was a lot of laughter and a great time was had by all.

A big thank you must go to the team that made it all happen and to the Pub in particular for arranging and hosting such an excellent time. Everyone enjoyed pulling it together and can be proud of what they achieved. We look forward to the next party.
